COOPERATIVES
The affiliated cooperatives to FEDECOVERA, are located on a privileged region since high quality coffee and cardamom are produced there, becoming on the most important cardamom production region and one of the most important coffee production region in Guatemala; this is significant since Guatemala is considered to be the first cardamom exporter and producer of the best coffee in the world.

The same coffee, cardamom, black tea and grains producers at cooperatives dedicate time and space to sustainable forestry activities. FEDECOVERA with its forestry politics and affiliated cooperatives have adopted a forestry culture diversifying their incomes, giving prosperity to the inhabitants of the area through environmental benefits obtained from forest.

For cooperatives, land is of collective property and it is legally registered on favor of each cooperative, on those cases the cooperative gives on usufruct an equal portion of land in benefit of the members as part of the services.
An important feature is FEDECOVERA’s production systems, where the way of working individually and collectively prevails and where administrative processes are executed directly by their own members.

Most of cooperatives have poor conditioned access roads, only in dry season it is possible to reach them, some others cannot be reached by car, and instead people have to walk. The communities involved speak q´eqchi´ and pocomchí languages, all of them have primary public schools and some also have secondary schools; and productive infrastructure to coffee and cardamom milling, administration offices and recreational common areas.
